Do I Need a Juicer or Food Processor to Do a Cleanse?
We often get both of these questions: do I need a juicer or a food processor?
Cleansing with a juicer or food processor is certainly nice, but definitely not necessary. In fact, there are many benefits to going with smoothies, instead of juicing, and any vegetable can easily be chopped just as well by hand. The great thing about cleansing is that it doesn’t require any expensive equipment. You can start with what you have at home.
Making a smoothie in the blender will give you plenty of fiber, plus the same nutrients you would get from juicing. Especially when it comes to fruits, a smoothie is better than juice, because all of that fiber will counter-balance the sugars in the food. This will keep your body regular, your blood sugar steady, and your belly nice and full-feeling.
In fact, for cleansing with natural foods, juicing and smoothies should be considered nice, but not necessary.
The thing that matters the most is what you eat. Worry yourself with cutting out processed foods and sweeteners and getting more raw fruits and vegetables, in whatever form, into your diet. Also, focus on non-glutenous grains, nuts and seeds.
When you do choose a smoothie, make sure it is non-dairy. Using frozen fruits and avocado is a nice blend for a creamy, delicious liquid meal that will last you all morning or afternoon. For a nice green juice without a juicer, try barley grass powder, either mixed with water or blended into your smoothie. You will be able to get all the cleansing, healing nutrients you need.
For those who do have a juicer, your major challenge is to not let fruit juices dominate the juicing experience.
While they have vitamins and minerals, they also contain a lot of fructose, which is a sugar, and is not good for your body. Make sure to use plenty of vegetables, like carrots and leafy greens, so you get the most from your juicer, and eat lots of whole foods, too.
When it comes to chopping fruits and vegetables for salads or fresh salsa, a food processor makes life a little easier, but there is no reason you can’t do a lot of the work by hand, and let your blender do the rest. While some recipes may require special equipment, none of those recipes are essential for a cleanse.
To detox your body and get healthy, keep it simple. Nature makes everything you need, and common kitchen tools can do the rest. Smoothies, juices and salsas are fun and tasty, but all you truly have to have is whole foods. So, do I need a juicer or a food processor – if I had to choose one machine it would be a sturdy blender!
