Healthier Alternatives to Sugar

Healthier Alternatives to SugarWhen a sugar craving comes along it can be hard to ignore, look for healthier alternatives to sugar.

You don’t always have to opt for something unhealthy, however. There are plenty of ways to get it naturally from fruit. Fruit packs sweet with fiber so that your body processes it quickly and keeps it from reeking the havoc refined sugar does. You can also use sweet alternatives, like stevia, as a replacement in recipes and in tea or other drinks.

To start with, it should be easy to turn dessert into an opportunity to eat fruit. Slicing a mango for dessert, making a puree or smoothie, or eating dried fruit will satisfy your after dinner sweet tooth without giving you the usual additives, refined ingredients and acidic qualities most toxic dessert foods do. You may feel like this sort of treat doesn’t really sound that amazing, but just give it a shot and you will notice that natural foods are able to satisfy you just as much as processed confections.

You can also start to take control of your other daily habits by noticing when you want to eat a candy bar or something unhealthy, and simply steer that craving towards healthier alternatives to sugar

Doing this regularly will likely immediately improve your health, encourage more regularity and boost your energy. You can combine these small choices into a total cleanse and detox which will help you kick your sugar cravings for good.

Finally, when a favorite recipe or beverage calls for sugar, you have a few, healthier, alternatives. Stevia is among the best. It doesn’t increase glycemic levels and is safe, even for sensitive diabetics. It is also sweeter than the regular stuff, so you can use less, and it is completely natural and plant derived.

Other healthier alternatives, to sugar…..

although still technically sugars, are honey and agave nectar. Often, honey and agave are best for beverages, such as tea. They are syrupy, so they change the texture of a recipe quite easily, and they are still processed in the body the way any other sweets are, so they are not suitable for diabetics or for those with Candida infection. Candida is a special case, in which even sweet fruits must be eliminated for a time.

If you have difficulty passing over sugar, you are not alone. It is highly addictive, and also dangerous. Beverages and processed foods sweetened with high fructose corn syrup are the worst, and have been proven to cause high cholesterol, blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. This is one craving that absolutely must be kicked.

It will help you if you cut soda and other sugared beverages in favor or water, begin to redirect your cravings for desserts and unhealthy snacks toward fruits and more natural foods, and use unprocessed sweeteners, like stevia, honey, and agave nectar for healthier alternatives to sugar. You can also use a holistic cleanse to get toxins out of your body and end your sugar cravings for good.
