How to Detox Junk Food
We realize, no matter how hard you try, there are going to be times when you just have to eat junk food.
Maybe it is because of a special holiday or a family reunion, or maybe you just decide it’s time to cheat a little. Whatever the reason, its not the end of the world if your body sees a potato chip or two, or a whole bag. Recovering from overeating or eating too much processed food is easy.
The beauty of your body is in its ability to bounce back and heal so well. You may have some work to do to get over junk food cravings for the next few days, but, especially if you have detoxed before, it is far from impossible. Simply start filling your diet with cleansing foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables. Within a couple weeks, you will be good as new.
There isn’t much more to it, and, even though you might be tempted, it isn’t necessary to take extreme measures like the lemon-cleanse diet or a juice fast. Especially not for seven days. While these kinds of measures can help cleanse you, they are too extreme. If you do try them, don’t do it for more than a day or two, just to start to loosen up toxins and flush them away, then switch to a practical, whole foods diet.
Eating raw fruits and vegetables is going to give you just as much cleansing as any fasting period, and keep your body from becoming too tired.
If you have gained a few extra pounds cheating, going back to a healthy, natural diet will help you lose those as well. Your body should regulate itself in only a few days, then you can begin bringing in more cooked or complex meals again.
You will also benefit from regular exercise. Light cardio helps your body burn fat and push toxins out through your breath and skin. It will also help break up any constipation and encourage elimination for a quicker detox. As long as you get plenty of fluids, your own defenses can easily take care of the rest.
Above all, remember, it is your regular eating habits, and not your occasional splurges which mean the most for your overall health.
Your immune system and cleansing organs can easily handle a little bit of junk-food, as long as your main diet is generally healthy. So, don’t feel guilty for enjoying a little ice cream, just make sure you are giving yourself the nutritional support you need to handle those small indulgences.
