The Link Between Deli Meats And Colon Cancer

Clinical studies at the University of Auckland have noticed a correlation between eating meat and colon cancer. In the study, two types of meat stood out as directly related to higher instances of colon cancer. The two meats noted by scientists were processed, or deli meats, and red meats.

The study did not conclude that it was the meat alone that caused colon cancer to form. Instead, researchers noted that it could be certain carcinogens (cancer causing agents), such as preservatives and dyes, that are used in the processing of meats. Nearly all deli meats are heavily processed and are loaded with fillers, preservatives and dyes.

Certain red meats also have dyes, and like deli meats, can contain fats. But unlike deli meats, red meat contains certain, naturally occurring nutrients that make small quantities of lean, red meat good for you. Therefore, when it comes to red meat, we urge you to buy natural, organic, grass fed meat, instead factory farmed beef, or other.

We also urge you to stay away from deli meats. These “meats” are hardly meats at all. They are loaded with additives, watered down, and devoid of nutrition. Deli meats are meant only to make convenient slices on sandwiches and should be thought of as a fake food, because there is nothing natural about them.

And when we say deli meats, don’t think we are only talking about bologna or pastrami. Deli turkey, ham, and roast beef, all contain dyes, nitrates, and MSG, as well as other flavor enhancers and preservatives. These meats are specially packed and contain certain fillers so that they stay uniform while being sliced and cut up for your convenience.

But there is nothing convenience again stomach or colon cancer. That is why eating deli meats should always be avoided. If you must eat a sandwich, use flaxseed bread, and pile on the veggies, and a little balsamic vinegar. Avocado, lettuce, and tomato on a sandwich tastes much better than deli meat or cheese, and is so much healthier for you.

The last thing you need is a bunch of preservative laden food piling up in your stomach and colon. These meats don’t break down the way normal food does, and they can cause you colon to be plugged. A plugged colon is also a colon that is littered with fecal matter and decaying food.

That is why a plugged colon becomes a prime breeding ground for cancer, according to the study. It is much better to keep your stomach and colon clean by avoiding deli meats altogether, and eating grass fed meats, or lean chicken or fish, and, not matter what, please eat fresh vegetables.
