The Master Cleanse is a popular weight-loss and cleanse diet lasting between 7 and 10 days. It involves drinking a mixture of cleansing ingredients and maple syrup, with the main goal of rapid weight-loss. Most famously, it was used by the celebrity Beyonce, who made it widely popular and renowned. Listed below is the recipe and simple instructions for a seven day detox:

Master Cleanse Instructions for 1 Serving:

10 ounces water
2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons grade B organic Maple Syrup
1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper.

Stir ingredients together and drink up to six glasses per day for seven days.

Master Cleanse Instructions for a Daily Serving:

60 ounces water
12 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons grade B organic Maple syrup
½ Teaspoon cayenne pepper

Shake and stir before each serving.

The most common mistake people make while following the Master Cleanse instructions is using poor ingredients, like bottled or concentrated lemon juice, low grade syrup, corn syrup or other syrup that is Maple flavored rather than actual maple syrup, or cayenne pepper with preservatives or anti-caking agents. For the best results, it is absolutely necessary to use quality ingredients and always use fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Another common problem with this cleanse is setting unrealistic goals, or not being able to comply with it. The Master Cleanse does not work unless you use the drinks in place of daily meals, all day. Breaking the diet, or splurging, will cause you to lose any weight-loss or cleansing effects. After the full week or ten days, a slow return to solid foods should be made. Raw fruits and vegetables, along with a lot of water is the best way to break the diet. Returning to fast foods, ice creams, or other rich fare is dangerous, and can cause illness, stomach upset, and other food-poisoning-like symptoms. It is best to ease out of the diet, slowly introducing more and more foods until the body has fully adjusted.
